Motorcycle

The motorcycle is an essential transportation tool in Haiti. They allow us to pick-up necessary supplies from the hard to reach businesses on the narrow city streets of Cap Haitien. They help us reach the homes of our program graduates, even when they are not accessible for any other type of vehicle.

Home visits are a vital part of Second Mile Haiti’s mission to end malnutrition. Second Mile staff members depart from the center weekly to check in with program graduates, both new and old. We rely on motorcycles to help caregivers start vegetables gardens and we rely on motorcycles to make rapid trips to the hospital for children who arrive at our centers in critical condition.

The motorcycle wears many hats at Second Mile Haiti and we simply couldn’t function without them.

Why? It’s a safety thing. Every year we sell the two oldest motorcycles in the Second Mile Haiti fleet which allows us to reinvest in a newer, safer, model. This ensures we are as safe as possible out on the road while spending less time and money on maintenance and repairs—or worse, on the side of the road!
